About

Regional Knowledge Network on Sustainable Infrastructure in Central Asia is created and coordinated by the University of Central Asia (UCA) to support implementation of regionally tailored activities of the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia.

The UCA SIPA team is responsible for regional policy dialogues on sustainable infrastructure, capacity development and peer learning. The UCA SIPA team aims to organize three summer schools for policymakers and national institutions and organize the Regional Knowledge Network (RKN) in Central Asia with a focus on Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan, and also knowledge dissemination and activities dedicated to other parts of the region – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

SIPA is a part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI), funded by the Government of Germany.

SIPA aims to support countries in Central and Southeast Asia transition towards energy, transport and industry systems aligned with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.

SIPA provides countries with capacity development and policy advice at different stages of the infrastructure investment cycle:

  • Long-term strategic planning
  • Project-level evaluation
  • Aligning national policy frameworks for energy, transport and industry
  • Green finance and investment

Regional Knowledge Network on Sustainable Infrastructure in Central Asia aims to:

  • develop and nurture a regional community around the knowledge and good practice on the themes of the Project, by transferring knowledge and inputs from the Implementing Partners
  • collectively develop relevant capacity through international expertise mobilised by the Project
  • connect policy makers, practitioners, and relevant experts within the focus countries
  • raise the “bar” in terms of standards, approaches and tools applied across the infrastructure project cycle (upstream strategic planning, investment project preparation, securing financing and implementation/delivery)
  • influence decision making in respective focus countries
  • share the lessons learned from the Project activities with other countries.
